Exclusive Northern Approach
The Rongai Route is the only route approaching Kilimanjaro from the north near the Kenyan border, offering a unique wilderness experience with fewer trekkers
Entering the moorland zone
After breakfast, continue ascending through the forest before emerging into the heather and moorland zone. The trail offers increasingly spectacular views of the Kenyan plains to the north.
Today's relatively short trek allows for excellent acclimatization as you ascend gradually. The vegetation changes dramatically as you leave the forest behind. Arrive at Second Cave (3,450m) with its unique rock formations and stunning views.
Second Cave Luxury Camp
Situated in a picturesque location with unique rock formations. The camp features heated dining tent, comfortable sleeping arrangements, and our signature hot water basin service for refreshing after the day's trek.

Gradual Ascent
The Rongai Route features a gradual ascent profile, which is excellent for acclimatization. Today's relatively short trek allows your body to adapt slowly to the increasing altitude
Approaching the majestic Mawenzi Peak
Today's trek continues through the moorland zone with increasingly spectacular views of Mawenzi Peak, Kilimanjaro's dramatic eastern summit. The trail is relatively gentle, allowing for excellent acclimatization.
As you approach Kikelewa Cave (3,600m), the landscape becomes more barren and alpine. The majestic sight of Mawenzi Peak dominates the eastern horizon. Arrive at camp with plenty of time to rest and acclimatize.
Mawenzi Peak (5,149m)
Kilimanjaro's dramatic eastern summit, which is actually an extinct volcano. Mawenzi is more rugged and technical than Kibo, offering spectacular photo opportunities throughout today's trek.

Acclimatization Day
Today's gentle ascent allows for excellent acclimatization. The relatively small elevation gain gives your body more time to adapt to the altitude, increasing your summit success chances
Ascend to the spectacular tarn below Mawenzi
Today you ascend to the spectacular Mawenzi Tarn (4,330m), situated directly below the dramatic cliffs of Mawenzi Peak. This is one of the most scenic camps on the entire mountain.
The relatively short but steep ascent brings you into the alpine desert zone. Mawenzi Tarn is a stunning alpine lake that reflects the majestic peak above. Arrive in time for lunch, with the afternoon free for acclimatization walks and photography.
Mawenzi Tarn (4,330m)
This stunning alpine lake sits at the base of Mawenzi Peak's dramatic cliffs. The tarn (mountain lake) creates spectacular reflections of the peak and offers some of the best photography opportunities on Kilimanjaro.

Acclimatization Walk
After lunch, your guides will lead an optional acclimatization walk to higher altitude before returning to sleep at Mawenzi Tarn. This "climb high, sleep low" strategy significantly improves altitude adaptation
Crossing the saddle to Kibo base camp
Today you cross the spectacular "Saddle" between Mawenzi and Kibo peaks. This high-altitude desert offers breathtaking views of both peaks and is one of the most unique landscapes on Earth.
The trek across the Saddle takes you through otherworldly terrain with minimal vegetation. Arrive at Kibo Hut (4,700m) in time for lunch, followed by rest and preparation for your summit attempt. An early dinner is served before resting for a few hours.
