Spanning 50,000 km², Selous Game Reserve is one of Africa's largest protected areas and a UNESCO World Heritage Site
Selous Game Reserve, named after the famous British explorer Frederick Selous, is Africa's largest game reserve and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Covering 50,000 km², it's larger than Switzerland and represents one of the last great wilderness areas on the continent.
The reserve's heart is the Rufiji River, Tanzania's largest river, which creates a network of lakes, channels, and islands. This unique ecosystem supports an incredible diversity of wildlife including Africa's largest populations of elephants, buffalo, hippos, crocodiles, and endangered wild dogs.
